DAE-Direct Access Endoscopy
Direct Access Endoscopy was created to expedite the scheduling of an endoscopy procedure. Examples of endoscopy procedures are colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, upper endoscopy. This program is only used when the referring or primary care physician does not feel that the patient needs an additional consultation and a thorough evaluation by a Gastroenterologist prior to the requested procedure. In this manner, we are saving the patient time and money, by not requiring an additional office visit prior to the procedure. All procedures are performed by a licensed medical doctor, specializing in Gastroenterology.
When your primary physician has determined that there is a need for either an Upper GI endoscopy or a colonoscopy, he or she will fax a request form to either Skyline Endoscopy Center or Harmony Surgery Center (depending on your preference). The request form will indicate the procedure to be performed, background medical information, and your personal contact information. Subsequently, you will be contacted by personnel from either center to schedule the appointment, based on your scheduling needs, as well as preference for the Gastroenterologist performing the procedure ( if you have one). The scheduler will ask you questions regarding your medical background to ensure that you do not need to be seen by our physicians prior to the procedure. You will also be given instructions for the preparation for the procedure if necessary. Please be assured that you will be able to meet the physician on the day of the procedure, to ask any questions you may have.
The following procedures are available for Direct Access Endoscopy:
Colonoscopy , Flexible Sigmoidoscopy , Upper GI (EGD)
The Direct Access Endoscopy program is available through both Harmony Surgery Center and Skyline Endoscopy.
