This day enables us to speak even louder about Irritable Bowel Syndrome, its impact on lives, the importance of its recognition, and the need for more focused research.
What is Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a common gastrointestinal disorder characterized by a combination of symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, and diarrhea, often occurring in cycles. While the exact cause of IBS is not fully understood, it is believed to involve a combination of factors, including abnormal gastrointestinal motility, visceral hypersensitivity, altered gut microbiota, and psychosocial factors such as stress.
Awareness is the First Step
For us, World IBS Day is more than just a commemoration. It is our opportunity to raise a louder conversation about this chronic disease that affects more than 10% of the global population. By fostering an open discussion on IBS, we aim to break the societal stigma attached to it and encourage people to seek necessary medical attention.
